DELETION FROM THE MONUMENTS LIST
This building was a national monument. The principals wanted to add a roof structure, which is not authorized on monuments. Because the reasoning listed by the Heritage Agency was no longer current, we investigated the monument status of the building. In the archive we discovered correspondence from 1965, in which the Heritage Agency advised to take the building off the Monuments List and be demolished. Pictures from the Image Library indicated the original building had been torn down and replaced. Due to a clerical error the address had remained on the list and kept the ‘order 1’ status. This made it possible to delete the building from the Monuments List, enabling construction of a roofstructure and with the fringe benefit that the Monuments List was brought up to date.
