BACK TO THE PRESENT
This city palace on the “Golden Bend” was built in 1672 as a residence with reception rooms, commissioned by Andries de Graeff, mayor and merchant. It has served as a residence, bank, school, office, and fashion house. We were tasked with combining residential and commercial spaces with sustainability in a restoration plan. After extensive consultation with the Monuments & Archaeology Department and the Spatial Planning & Quality Committee, the plans for residential and commercial use were approved. Later, the vault was removed and the main hall was redesigned, including the ceiling paintings, repainted as copies. The basement houses the kitchen, bicycle storage, restrooms, and access to the garden. After centuries, the rooms on the principal floor radiate a new, representative appearance. Two apartments are made on the upper floors. Finally, the building’s insulation, solar panels (PVT panels), and sustainable technical installations contribute significantly to minimizing energy consumption.
