NEW STUDY HALL FOR BARLAEUS GYMNASIUM
In recent years, the former entrance to the Barlaeus Gymnasium functioned as an exhibition space. Because this space was hardly used, the question arose how to put this room to better use. The demolition of the glass display “cube” and the underlying podium revealed a beautiful classical space: a square floor plan with four centrally placed columns and a wonderful height. The steps in the middle of the room have been restored and the tiled floor that emerged from underneath a linoleum floor has been cleaned and preserved. Acoustic panels and new lighting have been installed in the ceiling. The existing passages to the hallway have been closed with a glass entrance door and two glass display cabinets. The room will be used as a quiet/reading room for exam candidates and for small gatherings.
