SINGEL 134

SINGEL OFFICE

This building at Singel 134 was constructed around 1742. Half a century later, the salon was renovated, of which the paneling and stucco ceiling have been preserved. Several rigorous renovations in the 20th century and a major fire in 1963 meant that few monumental elements remain. In our design for the office, we drew on the structure and layout of the past. The floors have been kept as open as possible, with views from front to back. The light court has been reopened, allowing more daylight to enter both the ground floor and the basement. A custom-made elevator was possible using existing openings in the front section of the building. In collaboration with consultancy firm Visietech, an installation system was integrated into the plan. Colors, materials, and furnishings of the office spaces were selected with interior consultant E.S.T.I.D.A. In March 2025 the move was completed, and the building was put into use. From plan to reality in five years: the renovation of an 18th-century building in the heart of Amsterdam combined with the latest technology in the field of energy management.
