Matthijs has been working at Architectenbureau Vroom since August 2015, initially as an intern and later as an on-call worker. Since April 2018, he has been permanently employed as a Technical Designer/Assistant Project Manager.
Inspiration
“During my six-month internship as part of my vocational education in Building Construction, I was involved in the extensive renovation of the Rijksmuseum. That moment marked the decision for me to specialize further in the restoration of architectural heritage.”
Education
Matthijs studied Building Construction (Architecture) at the vocational level and later pursued a degree in Building Construction (renovation, restoration, and transformation) at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. He graduated with honors in 2017. Besides work, Matthijs is following several advanced courses at the National Restoration Centre and the Municipality of Amsterdam. He is currently enrolled in the Postgraduate Program in Building History and Restoration at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences.
Specializations
Matthijs’ specializations lie in developing construction drawings for every phase of a restoration process. He has experience in project management and is involved in the technical aspects of the execution process. Additionally, he supports the technical designers and gathers references and knowledge for the agency. Examples include: retrofitting/ sustainability; historical detailing; installation technology, and building regulations.
